Guidelines for book/media donations, drop-offs

Hello! Thank you for inquiring about our donations policy! Due to limited space and processing time/ energy, we can only accept one bag (or box) of books per drop-off. Please email if you have any unusual requests, such as multiple boxes, or a pick-up request. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.

 

BOOKS

Books must be in good condition with pages intact. We can accept:

  • children’s books ( “very good” or “like new”)

  • teen/ young-adult books

  • local authors and publishers

  • literature (fiction, poetry)

  • art books

  • graphic novels

  • manga

  • zines

  • rare/ antiquarian books

  • hand-made books

  • and unused stationery

We do NOT accept:

  • textbooks

  • recently outdated travel guides

  • outdated computer/ electronic how-to’s

  • books in bad condition (moldy, stained, very dusty, animal fur, dead bugs, haunted, etc.)

FAQ

  • Yes, we do accept books and music donations… but not all the time!

    Please call 917-522-1888 or email curioroom@gmail.com to check on current donation-receiving status, and set up an appointment in advance.

  • Option A) Email us (curioroom@gmail.com) and tell us what you’re considering for donation, and if possible, send a photo of the lot (no need for individual titles- just so we have an idea of quantity and type).

    Option B) Call (917) 522-1888 to set up an appointment, leave a message if necessary; include your name and phone number, and a short description of what your items are.

    We will respond ASAP and let you know if we have capacity for receiving donations at that moment in time. Due to limited shelving and storage space, we stagger donations and only intake selected titles/ genres when it is possible to do so. Thank you for understanding!

  • Yes, but it depends on the items.

    If you are a local artist, musician, or writer, we would love to carry a few samples of your work at the store. We can offer a consignment percentage of 60-40% (60% to the creative, 40% for the store).

    For books, we currently only consign for rare, out-of-print, collectors’ items, and/or antiquarian books, fully intact, no mold or mildew damage. Commission can be flexible, depending on the items.
