On the flip side, SunDogs Studio has a new community initiative in the works, tentatively called “The Westchester Seed Library Network” and “Mount Kisco Local Seed Library.” Look out for more info coming soon, as we are setting up new webpage and figuring out our funding channels. Here is an excerpt from the mission statement:

“We believe seed saving and seed sharing serves as a vehicle for supporting local and regional food systems, preserving genetic diversity, and maintaining connections to history and culture. The mission of The Westchester Seed Library Network is to increase and promote equitable access to local organic seeds for vegetable and herb gardens and native plants through educational programs and public access to a growing sustainable and resilient stock of regionally adapted seeds. 

We aim to connect seed libraries, their stakeholders and partners, and to promote and support the development of new seed libraries throughout Westchester County and to connect libraries, schools, community members, gardeners, and local farmers to seed libraries and hands on educational opportunities. 

We are currently working in collaboration with our partner organizations and the Mount Kisco Public Library to establish a seed library for Mount Kisco and the surrounding community. The seed library will be free and open to the public with membership and provide valuable resources and educational opportunities to the local community.”
